About Us

Sotera Risk Solutions Ltd is an independent, specialist risk management consultancy company which aims to provide exceptional services to its clients.

Sotera was established in 2002 by its three founding directors who had key roles for major international consulting firms. We believed that we could deliver a better service through working together and a decade or so later we still believe.

Many of our current clients have been with us from day one and we are honoured to be able to serve them together with our new and emerging client base.

Sotera is the Greek goddess for safety and salvation. She is often symbolised as having, in one hand success, and in the other, chance. These are two factors that are often balanced in Risk Management. She is represented as carrying a cornucopia, containing a profusion of everything that is good. Whilst the staff cannot claim they can achieve acts of divine intervention, hopefully our clients believe otherwise!

Windscreens and rear-view mirrors

John Adams, Emeritus Professor of University College London once likened the response to learning from accidents to driving a car using only the rear-view mirror for guidance.

Extending the metaphor a little further, we believe that developing a suitable risk model firmly fixes the gaze through the windscreen, while taking an occasional glance through the rear view mirror and an eye on the key indicators on the dashboard.

The Danish philosopher, Søren Kierkegaard observed that:

“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards”

He seems to be making the same point as John Adams, but in 1840, he probably didn’t have access to a predictive risk model!

What We Do

Sustainability in Business

Sotera has a strategy and commitment to reducing its environmental impact resulting from our business.

We have already made strides by requiring all personnel to work from home rather than having a central office and using Microsoft TEAMS for meetings where possible to minimise our Carbon footprint from travel.

As we face irreversible changes in the Earth’s system we understand that we must all go further as a society to manage the risk from climate change and protect our planet for future generations.   To support this challenge we are currently striving to be carbon neutral by 2040.  The current steps we are taking to progress towards this challenging goal include:

  • Identifying opportunities to eliminate or minimise the use of fuel
  • Securing fuel from renewable sources
  • Minimising the use of plastics
  • Maximising recycling
  • Ensuring that suppliers share our sustainable vision
  • Continually monitoring and reviewing our sustainability performance and engaging with staff on opportunities for improvement.
